Over 8,000 Irish emigrated to Argentina in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Today there are an estimated 500,000 people of Irish ancestry in Argentina, however these numbers may be far higher given that many Irish newcomers declared themselves as British given that Ireland at the time was still part of the United Kingdom.
