Irish migration to Great Britain has a long history, and today around six million residents of Great Britain are either from the island of Ireland or have Irish ancestry. In 2001, there were 674,786 people in England (1.4 per cent of the population) who born were in Ireland. This is the largest concentration of Irish-born abroad anywhere in the world.
